Congressional Internship Program
Congressional internships are available in my Washington, D.C. and Champaign offices. To apply for an internship, please submit the following materials to my Washington, D.C. or Champaign office.

Application Requirements:
1. Cover letter describing why you would like to intern for Congressman Johnson
2. Résumé
3. Writing sample (1-2 pages)
4. Three academic or professional references

Interns in my Washington, D.C. office experience life in a Congressional office first hand. While at the Washington DC office, interns assist with general office tasks, attend briefings and hearings on behalf of senior staff, organize incoming constituent mail, provide Capitol tours to visitors, and a multitude of other tasks.

During the spring and fall sessions, interns currently enrolled in college are expected to work as many hours as possible without interfering with their academics. During the summer session, interns are expected to work normal business hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm as many days a week as their schedule permits.

Interns in my Champaign office get to experience another side of a Congressional office. They are able to interact with constituents in the district that I represent and have the opportunity to learn from my aides that handle casework for my constituents. They also assist with administrative tasks, help to organize incoming mail, and play a vital role in communicating with constituents on a first hand basis.

All students, regardless of school location, are encouraged to apply. Students with Illinois ties are preferred, but Illinois residency is not a requirement.
