Veterans

Keeping our nation’s commitment to those who served and fought to keep America safe is a national priority.

Improvements must be made so that veterans’ services work better for all our nation’s veterans – and that starts with providing proper funding and making certain that it is used effectively and efficiently.

I have voted for responsible budgets that provided necessary funding for veterans’ services, helped establish outpatient veterans’ health clinics in Yakima and Wenatchee, and supported an historic expansion of concurrent receipt for disabled veterans, improvements to the GI Bill and the Wounded Warriors program.

I joined with Congressman Earl Pomeroy, a Democrat from North Dakota, to write a law protecting the survivor benefits of soldiers killed in action and wrote a provision making legal immigrants serving in the military eligible for U.S. citizenship after one year in uniform.

I am a supporter and cosponsor of proposals to enable the VA to partner with local hospitals, medical centers and clinics to serve rural veterans who are currently forced to drive too far and wait too long or even the most basic care.

Central Washington veterans are also encouraged to contribute to the Veterans History Project.  Learn more about the Project by clicking here.
