Help With A Passport

Passports

 

Current Processing Times

 

Routine Service—As of March 2011, the Department of State is processing routine applications in approximately 4-6 weeks from the time the application is received.

 

Expedited Service—As of March 2011, the Department of State is processing requests for expedited service in about 2-3 weeks, door-to-door, when overnight delivery is requested and paid for both to and from the passport agency.

 

Note: If you are traveling within 14 days or need Passport for a Foreign Visa within 4 weeks, please contact one of my district offices for assistance.

 

New Passports

For new passports, you will need to visit a passport acceptance facility. Those serving the district are listed below. With you, you will need to bring the following:

·  2 passport photos (or have them taken at the location for a small fee)

·  Proof of citizenship (typically a birth certificate)

·  A valid form of photo ID (i.e., a driver’s license or military ID)

Passport Renewals

 

Passports can be renewed by mail if you currently have your undamaged passport and it is available to submit. It must also have been received within the past 15 years, you must have been over the age of 16 when it was issued, and you currently must have the same name or your name change can be documented. If you are renewing your passport to change from your maiden to married name, this is classified as a renewal. In addition, you will need to provide a copy of the marriage license. The following are required for a renewal:

·  Application (DS-82)

·  A check or money order

·  Expired passport

·  2 passport photos
