Gerlach observes 11th Anniversary of 9/11

Washington Congressman Jim Gerlach (PA-6th District) issued the following statement on Tuesday in observance of the 11th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in New York City, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania:

"Today, we join together as one nation to reflect on the tragic loss of nearly 3,000 innocent lives and offer a promise to the families and loved ones of those who perished that we will never forget what happened on that fateful day. We will never forget how on one of our darkest days, Americans rallied. It started in the clear blue sky above Shanksville, Pennsylvania when the passengers aboard United Flight 93 decisively confronted evil. It continued for weeks as people waited in lines for hours to donate blood to help treat the wounded in New York City and at the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C.

Eleven years later, this most solemn anniversary reminds us of the immense debt of gratitude we owe our extraordinarily courageous emergency responders -- many of whom volunteer and selflessly put the safety of their neighbors ahead of their own. And we honor the men and women in our military and the sacrifices made by their families during the last 11 years. America remains a free country because of these men and women who wear our nation's uniform. They deserve nothing less than our unwavering support as they continue to protect us against all threats."
