Congressman Barney Frank today announced that the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center will receive a $187,270 federal grant for its work helping families living with HIV and AIDS. The grant will make it possible for the Center to provide coordinated services and access to research for women, children, young adults, and infants affected by AIDS.

“The Greater New Bedford Community Health Center is one of our most important community institutions because of the service it provides.” said Congressman Frank. “This is one more example of the importance of adequately funding the federal government, so that we can protect the legitimate needs of the citizens.”

The funds announced today are part of the Ryan White Title IV Women, Infants, Children, Youth and Affected Family Members AIDS Healthcare program run by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This program is designed to provide family-centered care to women, children, young adults, and infacts living with AIDS, as well as to affected family members. Many of the people helped by the program are poor and minority citizens with only limited access to the housing and transportation which are essential to receiving adequate treatment for the disease.
