  2. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Retired Colonel Ralph S. Parr, who died on December 7th at the age of 88. Born in Portsmouth, VA, he was a double ace, who flew 641 combat missions in World War II, Korea and the Vietnam wars. He was the only American aviator to receive both the distinguished Service Cross and Air Force Cross. What an extraordinary life of service. http://ow.ly/g0Pa9

In advance of Veterans Day, I asked you to interview a veteran and send me your photos and anecdotes from your family and friends in Virginia's 4th District (http://forbes.house.gov/blog/?postid=312016). The response was overwhelming. Thank you!
  5. Today marks the 71st anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In honor of the over 2,400 Americans who died at Pearl Harbor, we remember the service and sacrifices that the men and women of the Armed Services have and continue to make for all of us.
  6. Watch “Generations” http://ow.ly/fUrS1

Our parents and grandparents left us a strong America and a growing economy. Meanwhile, trillion-dollar deficits have left our future generations saddled with debt. Our children and grandchildren - this is who we are fighting for.
  7. As we prepare to celebrate the special Christmas holiday with friends & family, let's not forget our military families home & abroad.

Writing Christmas Cards today with the Red Cross for our deployed troops overseas with Madeleine Bordallo, my friend who serves as my Democratic counterpart on the House Armed Services Readiness Committee. We thank them for their sacrifices to their country, will miss them over the Holidays and pray for their safe and expedient return home soon.

This Thanksgiving, the Wall Street Journal will reprint Nathanial Morton’s powerful story about the Pilgrims’ journey to Plymouth and the remarkable and courageous lengths they were willing to go to seek religious freedom in the New World, as it has every year since 1961.
