Jeff Flake | Congressman Arizona’s Sixth District

Federal Spending

Federal Spending

Simply put, Congressman Flake believes that federal spending is out of control. Despite compelling reasons to slow the rise in federal spending, such as the war in Iraq and Hurricane Katrina recovery costs, Congress seems unable and unwilling to cut the budget.

Congressman Flake consistently looks for opportunities to cut federal spending. He has been a leader in Congress on earmark reform and has called for the new Medicare prescription drug benefit to be cancelled, or at a minimum means-tested, in order help defray its cost.

For the past three years, he has been ranked number one out of 435 members of the House of Representatives by the National Taxpayers Union on votes for fiscal policy beneficial to taxpayers.
