DelBene Statement on November Jobs Report

Dec 7, 2012 Issues: Economy and Jobs, Tax Reform

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzan DelBene released the following statement after the Department of Labor reported that the economy added 146,000 jobs and the unemployment rate fell to 7.7 percent in November.  With 147,000 jobs added by private businesses, this marks the 33rd consecutive month of private sector job growth:

“Today’s better than expected jobs numbers show our economy is moving in the right direction, but the recovery is very fragile right now and there’s more to do. Congress must take action now to ensure our economy continues to grow.

“We need to do everything possible to continue the progress we’ve made. We have an opportunity to accelerate the nation’s recovery, create jobs and reduce our deficit, but only if we are willing to work together to get something done now.

“Both Republicans and Democrats in Congress need to come together to address the fiscal cliff. Failure to do so would stall the progress we’re making and hurt millions of families across the nation in the form of higher taxes and greater financial uncertainty for small businesses. We need to have a balanced approach with both revenue and efforts to bring our spending under control.

“I believe it is critical that we take action now to vote on the extension of the middle class tax cuts, which will help working families.”
