Committees and Subcommittees

House Armed Services Committee

The House Armed Services Committee has jurisdiction for: defense policy generally, ongoing military operations, the organization and reform of the Department of Defense and Department of Energy, counter-drug programs, acquisition and industrial base policy, technology transfer and export controls, joint interoperability, the Cooperative Threat Reduction program, Department of Energy nonproliferation programs, and detainee affairs and policy.

Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations

 The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee conducts studies and investigations across the jurisdiction of the House Armed Services Committee, including inquiries into allegations of waste, fraud, abuse, and inefficiencies within the Department of Defense.  Members and staff conduct comprehensive oversight studies of major programs and issues and produce reports for the Committee and DOD providing recommendations and improvements of these programs. 

Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces

The Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee has oversight over the Navy and Marine Corps programs.  Through its authorization for Navy and Marine Corps procurement and research and development programs, this subcommittee is committed to reversing the decline in the Naval ship fleet, strengthening the naval air component, and providing the Marine Corps with essential equipment for combat operations.

Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces

The Air and Land Forces Subcommittee conducts oversight of ammunition programs, Army and Air Force acquisition programs, all Navy and Marine Corps aviation programs, Army National Guard and Reserve, and Air Force National Guard and Reserve.  This subcommittee authorizes procurement and research and development programs to ensure that America’s soldiers and airmen are fully equipped to carry out their mission and to keep our nation safe.

House Small Business Committee

The Committee was established to protect and assist small businesses and to provide oversight and legislative authority over the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and its programs.

Ranking Member - Subcommittee on Agriculture, Energy and Trade

This Agriculture, Energy, and Trade Subcommittee will address issues that enhance rural economic growth, increasing America’s energy independence and ensuring that America’s small businesses can compete effectively in a global marketplace.  It will provide oversight of agricultural policies; environmental issues and regulations (including agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers); energy issues, including expansion of domestic resources whether they are renewable or non-renewable; international trade policy with particular emphasis on agencies that provide direct assistance to small businesses; and infringement of intellectual property rights by foreign competition. 

Subcommittee on Contracting and Workforce

This subcommittee will assess the federal procurement system, including those programs designed specifically to enhance participation by small businesses in providing goods and services to the federal government.  The subcommittee will examine various programs designed to provide technical assistance to small businesses, whether specifically aimed at federal contractors or small businesses in general.  Finally, the subcommittee will review the broad scope of workforce issues that affect the ability of small businesses to obtain and maintain qualified employees.
