Breaking News: The Supreme Court is going to take up Prop. 8 and the discriminatory “Defense of Marriage Act.” I sincerely hope this move finally puts us on the path to marriage equality for Californians and all Americans.

On the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, I wanted to share this heartwarming story about two Peal Harbor survivors in Ventura County meeting for the first time.
http://www.vcstar.com/news/2012/dec/06/ventura-county-survivors-of-pearl-harbor-meet/- Today I had the privilege of meeting with NASA Astronaut and UCSB Alum Joe Acaba. Joe just returned from the International Space Station and I really enjoyed hearing firsthand about his experience from Santa Barbara to space. Go Gauchos!

Have you gotten your flu shot this year? It’s not too late! Flu season peaks in February and lasts through spring. Each year, about 200,000 Americans are hospitalized due to complications from the flu, yet the vaccine could prevent most of these illnesses. So proud of UCSB’s Institute for Energy Efficiency, one of only 66 recipients nationwide to receive a grant to develop a new energy storage device for hybrid electric vehicles. The U.S. Dept. of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency–En...ergy (ARPA-E) provides funding to breakthrough technologies that have the potential to develop into new industries and have a commercial impact. Tomorrow is World AIDS Day. It’s a time to remember those we’ve lost, renew our efforts in the fight against this horrible disease, and recommit ourselves to improving the lives of the millions affected by HIV/AIDS around the world. Twenty-...five years ago activists created the AIDS Memorial Quilt with panels of the names of those taken by AIDS. Today it has been digitized and can be viewed in its entirety. I encourage you to view and explore the Quilt online. It is a somber experience, but also proves to be exceptional in reminding us of the individual humanity of each of those lost in this epidemic. http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/projects/aidsquilt/See MoreLois Capps shared a link.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/29/nyregion/photo-of-officer-giving-boots-to-barefoot-man-warms-hearts-online.html?_r=0- Congress should extend the middle class tax cuts now. Failing to do so would cost the typical middle class $2,200 next year and hurt our economy. What would a $2,200 tax hike mean to your family? #My2K

A great bill just passed the House of Representatives with my support. The Clothe a Homeless Hero Act would permit the TSA to donate clothing left behind at airport security checkpoints to homeless veterans. While we must continue to focus...our efforts on ending veteran homelessness, this is a common sense step to help some of our veterans who are struggling.See More

A new report from the White House shows a looming middle class tax hike would be devastating to our economy as the typical middle class family sees taxes go up by $2,200. It’s time to pass the middle class tax cuts now and bring economic security this holiday season. http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/uploads/consumer_report_embargo.pdfLois Capps updated her cover photo.

Santa Maria's new station 5 will open today. The new fire station was sorely needed and will cut response times in half - saving lives, homes and businesses in Santa Maria. I'm pleased the federal goverment was able to provide the funding...for this critical project in such tough times for our local budgets.See More
