House Majority Leader Eric Cantor

The House Will Not Adjourn The 112th Congress Until A Credible Solution To The Fiscal Cliff Has Been Found

Posted by Connor Walsh on December 5, 2012

During his weekly Colloquy with Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor made clear that the House will not adjourn the 112th Congress until a credible solution to the fiscal cliff has been found:

As was announced last week, the House has a number of outstanding legislative items that we must resolve and first amongst them is the so-called fiscal cliff. Though the House's targeted adjournment set in October of last year was December 14, that is no longer the case. Instead, Members are advised that the House will now be in session the week of December 17, exact days will be announced next week. Members are further reminded that the House will not adjourn the 112th Congress until a credible solution to the fiscal cliff has been found.

On Friday, November 30, the House is considering H.R. 6429, which will award 55,000 visas to foreign graduates of U.S. universities with doctoral and masters degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Leader Cantor Calls On President Obama To Get Serious About Entitlement Reform To Avert Fiscal Cliff

We still believe that it is most important for us to address the economic situation in this country where so many people are out of work. That's why we take the position, and believe strongly, that increasing marginal rates, income tax rates, is not the way to produce growth and to put people back to work.
