Committee Assignments
There are 20 standing committees within the U.S. House of Representatives. Each of the committees has different legislative jurisdictions and has oversight responsibilities associated with bills and policies as they are prepared for consideration on the House floor. In addition, committees monitor federal agencies, programs, and activities within their jurisdictions
Committees within the U.S. House of Representatives include: Agriculture; Appropriations; Armed Services; Budget; Commerce; Education and the Workforce; Ethics; Financial Services; Foreign Affairs; Homeland Security; House Administration; Judiciary; Natural Resources; Oversight and Government Reform; Rules; Science, Space, and Technology; Small Business; Transportation and Infrastructure; Veterans’ Affairs; and Ways and Means.
All Members are assigned to committees by party leaders. Each committee has a chair and a ranking member. The party currently serving as the majority holds the position of chairman and the party serving as minority holds the position of ranking member.
Rob serves on the powerful House Rules Committee as well as the House Natural Resources Committee where he is chairman of the National Parks, Forests and Public Lands Subcommittee. *Due to a limit placed on the number of committees for which one Member may serve, Rob is on leave from the House Armed Services Committee in order to serve on the aforementioned committees and subcommittee.
House Committee on Natural Resources
Due to the abundant amount of federal land in the state of Utah, which is approximately 64%, the House Natural Resources Committee is one of the most important committees to the state. The committee oversees the use, management and funding for all federal lands in the United State and territories. In addition, the committee oversees issues and legislation concerning American energy production, mineral lands and mining, fisheries and wildlife, public lands, oceans, Native Americans, irrigation and reclamation. read more here…
National Parks, Forests and Public Lands Subcommittee
The Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands is responsible for all matters related to the National Park System, U.S. Forests, public lands and national monuments. Republicans on the Subcommittee are working to expand and protect opportunities for all Americans to enjoy our beautiful public lands, ensuring they are available for recreational opportunities and economic development necessary to support communities, businesses and education in states and the country as a whole. House Committee on Rules
The Committee on Rules is amongst the oldest standing committees in the House, having been first formally constituted on April 2, 1789. The Committee is commonly known as “The Speaker’s Committee” because it is the mechanism that the Speaker uses to maintain control of the House Floor, and was chaired by the Speaker until 1910. Because of the vast power wielded by the Rules Committee, its ratio has traditionally been weighted in favor of the majority party, and has been in its “2 to 1 1” (9 majority and 4 minority members) configuration since the late 1970s. read more here…
