Congressman Canseco's Statement on the September Jobs Report

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco (TX-23), a former small business owner, issued the following statement after the Department of Labor released the September jobs report which indicated that the economy added 114,000 jobs and the unemployment rate dropped slightly to 7.8%.

“Today’s jobs report is not cause for the joyous celebration and sense of accomplishment that President Obama is desperately trying to convince the American people it is.  While it certainly offers some encouraging news, the unemployment rate is still unacceptably high and there are still 23 million Americans who are either unemployed, underemployed, or have simply given up looking for work in the Obama economy.  Furthermore, it’s taken 44 months to return the unemployment rate to under 8%, despite passage of President Obama’s failed $1 trillion stimulus bill that his administration promised would keep the unemployment rate below 8%.  President Obama can put lipstick on the proverbial economic pig all he wants, but it doesn’t change the fact that he promised the American people an economic belle of the ball.”
