Congressman Canseco’s Statement on the 11th Anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco (TX-23), proud representative of the 23rd District of Texas, released the following statement on the 11th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks:

“Eleven years ago today, our nation suffered a horrific terrorist attack upon our homeland that claimed the lives of almost 3,000 Americans at the World Trade Center in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in a field in rural Pennsylvania.  Today, we honor those who lost their lives that day, and the families they left behind.”

“Despite the horror and tragedy of these attacks, we saw the best of the American spirit that horrible day.  We saw passengers on United Flight 93 fight to retake the plane in an attempt to prevent it from reaching its intended target, ultimately resulting in its crash in a Pennsylvania field.  We saw first responders, knowing they might not make it out alive themselves, rush into the burning towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon looking for survivors.  We saw Americans silently place our nation’s flag in front of their homes and businesses in a display of patriotism and unity.  In these instances, and so many others that day, we saw the strength of character, sense of duty, and the determination to persevere no matter the odds that are hallmarks of the American spirit.”

“As we look back on that day and at the years that have followed, it’s important for ourselves and the nation to remember those we lost on 9/11 and those who have since died fighting to defend our homeland and our freedom, and to ensure we never have to relive a day like that again.  On this day of remembrance, we remember the fallen, hug those we love a little tighter, and give thanks that we still live in the land of freedom that is the United States of America.”
