Fighting for Florida

Tell me your story

There has been a lot of talk in Washington about the fiscal cliff, but there isn’t enough talk about what the fiscal cliff actually means to people who are trying to work their way up. I’ve heard so many stories and I want to continue to be your voice in the Senate, but more importantly, to give you a seat at the table. I want to make sure Americans feel empowered to achieve and make their lives better financially. The key to a vibrant middle class is an abundance of jobs that pay enough so that workers can provide for themselves and their families, enjoy leisure time, save for retirement and pay for their children’s education so they can grow up and earn even more than their parents.

Jax Small Business

I am a result of an empowered middle class. My parents immigrated here with few skills, limited education and no money. They worked long, hard hours – my father as a bartender and my mother as a maid and stock clerk – so that my brother, sisters and I could have the lives they weren’t able to achieve. My parents believed and worked toward the American dream: to fulfill the desire of every parent to leave their children with a better life than their own. My family’s story is not rare in America.

Today, the journey my parents made from immigrant to working middle class is harder than it was in their time. The world has changed, the economy has changed and our society has changed. But I don’t want a kid in Florida to think because his parents are a bartender or a maid, he can’t be a lawyer or United States senator. It was possible for me, and I’m committed to making sure it continues to be a reality.

I hope you take a minute to visit my website and tell me more about your story.

Thanks,
