Rep. George Miller Statement on Reelection as the Senior Democratic Member of the Education and Workforce Committee

Dec 5, 2012

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.) issued the following statement today after being reelected as the senior Democratic member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee.

“I would like to thank the Democratic caucus’ continued support for me as the senior Democratic member of the Education and the Workforce Committee. In the upcoming Congress, our committee must address a number of critical challenges facing the middle class and those families struggling to join it. How elected officials meet these challenges will determine the future economic strength of our nation.

“Throughout my career, I have sought bipartisan consensus. I stand ready to work in a collaborative manner with the majority wherever there is the opportunity to do so. Working families are counting on us to move issues forward that will help grow and strengthen the middle class.  For example, our committee in the next Congress should work together to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, the Higher Education Act, and the Workforce Investment Act, raise the minimum wage, and protect miners’ safety and health.  Advancing these issues through Congress and to the President’s desk for signature will make a real difference in the lives of average Americans.”
