Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Peter King (R-NY), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, congratulated Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) on his selection by the Republican Steering Committee to be Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee for the 113th Congress:

“I congratulate Representative Michael McCaul on his selection by the Steering Committee to take over as Committee Chairman beginning in January.  I have worked with Rep. McCaul on the Committee for the past several years, and he has been a very effective leader of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Management and, previously, the Intelligence Subcommittee.  I know that he is committed to securing our Homeland from terrorism and ensuring that the Department of Homeland Security acts in an effective and responsible manner.  I wish Congressman McCaul the best and look forward to working with him going forward.

“Serving as the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee has been the greatest honor, and I greatly appreciate the confidence of the Steering Committees, of Speaker Boehner, and before him, Speaker Hastert.  During my tenure as Chairman, I am proud to have focused on the threat posed to our Homeland by Islamist terrorists and to have gotten the Department of Homeland Security to  allocate vital homeland security grant funds in a risk-based fashion.”
