    Crowdfunding a Startup: Danville & Blacksburg
    On Thursday, Senator Warner held the fifth and sixth in his series of ‘crowdfunding’ seminars for Virginia entrepreneurs and start up businesses. Today’s events, held in Danville and Blacksburg included panel discussions with a range of business leaders, including a representative from Kiva, the revolutionary online microfinancing platform, and the CEO of Blacksburg’s own Interactive Design & Development.

    Sens. Webb, Warner Urge Enforcement of Trade Duties to Ensure Fair Competition for Virginia Furniture Makers
    Sens. Jim Webb (D-VA), Mark R. Warner (D-VA), Kay Hagan (D-NC) and Richard Burr (R-NC), and Reps. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) and Virginia Foxx (R-NC), sent a joint letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano today urging immediate action to collect unpaid duties owed by importers of wooden bedroom furniture made in China.

    After touring Solid Stone Fabrics Inc.’s plant uptown on Friday, an excited U.S. Sen. Mark Warner said it may exemplify the future of manufacturing in this area. Solid Stone Fabrics builds on this area’s generations of manufacturing, but with 21st century skills, Warner said. He added that the small company is flexible, with quick turnaround time, and is high-tech. He said it makes a value-added product with environmentally friendly processes.
