Service Academy
As one of only two South Dakota Senators, I am asked each year to nominate the best and brightest students from South Dakota to the United States Service Academies. This is not an easy task, but it is one of my favorite responsibilities, because each year I am impressed by the very high caliber of young people our state produces.
A world of opportunity awaits a service academy appointee. From these institutions come our nation's pilots, physicists, navigators, engineers and astronauts. From these minds will come the leadership that will carry us into the next century.
