U.S. Attorney Application
Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) have jointly convened a nationwide search for the next U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. Applications will be reviewed by a nonpartisan, six person screening committee comprised of legal experts with experience as federal prosecutors, federal judges, top Department of Justice officials, corporate litigators, public corruption investigators, and criminal defense attorneys. The screening committee will recommend candidates to Senators Durbin and Kirk, who will conduct joint interviews and submit names to President Obama.
Once the President submits a nomination to the U.S. Senate, the nominee will be reviewed and will receive a vote by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. Upon approval by the Judiciary Committee, the nomination will be considered by the full Senate. On average, it takes between two and four months to confirm a U.S. Attorney once that nomination is sent to the Senate.
