How to Apply for an Internship:

Senator Kerry's offices welcome the assistance of volunteers who wish to experience the inside workings of a Senate office. 

Washington, DC:

We are now accepting applications for the spring. The deadline for applications is December 20th. All completed paperwork including recommendations must arrive at our office on that date. Due to the high volume of applicants, we cannot check for complete applications.

A limited number of volunteer internships are available in my Capitol Hill office to US citizens who are:

  • Undergraduate students who are Massachusetts residents or;
  • Undergraduate students currently attending school in Massachusetts

To start the application process, complete the Intern Application form and return it with:

  • cover letter
  • resume
  • writing sample
  • two letters of recommendation [letters of recommendaion may be sent separately, but should arrive by the deadline in order to be matched with your application]

The deadline for summer applications is March 15th.

The Washington, DC office does not accept intern applications through the mail, express delivery or fax. Please send completed applications by emailing them to internapplication@kerry.senate.gov.


After your application materials are reviewed, selected applicants will be contacted in order to schedule an interview. Due to the number of applicants, please be aware that it may take several weeks before your application status is finalized or you are contacted to set up an interview.

Please understand that internships in Senator Kerry’s DC office do not address international affairs. For internships related to international affairs, please check out the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Massachusetts:

A limited number of volunteer internships in my Boston office are available to undergraduate students and Boston-area high school students. If you are interested in applying for any of our Boston internship programs (fall semester, winter/spring semester, or summer semester) please fill out the Intern Application and email it to the Boston Intern Coordinator or mail it, along with a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and recommendation, to:
