Meeting with with Sir Elton John, Annie Lennox, UNAIDS Director Michel Sidibé to  Discuss AIDS Research, Investments and Policies

Senator John Kerry, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, met with Sir Elton John, Annie Lennox, and UNAIDS Director Michel Sidibé who were in town for the International AIDS Conference.  During the meeting they discussed current investments in research, policies and next steps for fighting the AIDS epidemic. They also discussed options for strengthening the PEPFAR and the Global Fund programs.

Delivering $14.5 Mil SAFER Grant to Fall River

Senator Kerry visited Fall River to award a $14,453,524 federal grant to the Fall River Fire Department.  The new Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant will prevent two fire stations from closing and save 79 firefighter jobs that would have been lost due to local budget cuts.

Announcing Over $33 Mil for MA Community Health Centers

Senator Kerry visited the Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center in Allston to announce that Massachusetts received over $33 million to help fund 11 community health centers across Massachusetts, all made possible by the Affordable Care Act.

Youth Anti-Drug Summit

Senator Kerry, along with ONDCP Director R. Gil Kerlikowske and former Boston Celtics player, Chris Herren, visited Roca, a Chelsea youth center focused on lifting young people out of poverty, violence, and drug abuse.  The Senator and Director met with several young people currently active in Roca’s programming for an open-forum discussion.

Meeting with MA AmeriCorps Volunteers

Senator Kerry, along with R. Gil Kerlikowske, Director of the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), met with Massachusetts AmeriCorps volunteers and City Year members for a youth summit the Senator hosted in Chelsea, MA.

Visiting MA Troops

Senator Kerry visited with Massachusetts troops serving overseas at the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing.

South Weymouth Naval Air Station Tour

Senator Kerry met with developers, toured three sites, and discussed job creation and latest construction and economic redevelopment achievements and future plans at SouthField.

UMass Lowell Visit

Senator Kerry discussed the outlook for legislation, future of the U.S. Congress, and lessons learned from 26 years in Senate at Chancellor Marty Meehan’s political science class focused on the U.S. Congress.

Officer Jack Maguire Post Office Dedication

Senator Kerry, along with Mayor Scott Galvin, Police Chief Robert J. Ferullo Jr., family members of Officer Jack Maguire, and fellow police officers, presented copy of the law signed by President Barack Obama and authored by Senator Kerry to rename the Woburn Post Office after John “Jack” Maguire, a patrolman in the Woburn Police Department who was killed in the line of duty in 2009.
