Federal Agency Assistance

One of my most important responsibilities as a United States Senator from Hawaii is to assist individual constituents who are having problems with a federal government agency (for example, a social security, military, veterans, worker's compensation, immigration, passport, civil service or income tax case). While I am unable to assure a specific outcome regarding a particular case, I may initiate an inquiry regarding the status of your case, obtain additional information or direct you to appropriate resources or services.

Please send a signed letter to my Honolulu office detailing your problem, the agency involved and any other pertinent information related to your situation. Additionally, the Privacy Act of 1974 requires your written authorization before I can contact the appropriate federal agency on your behalf.. Click here to download the Privacy Act release form. Mail or fax your letter, along with the signed authorization form and any attachments, to my Honolulu office. If you do not include a signed Privacy Act release form, it will significantly increase the time it will take to get a response back from a federal agency.

Ethical and legal constraints preclude me from assisting in criminal matters or private civil litigation. For such cases, you may wish to consult with an attorney to protect or pursue your legal rights.

If you are not from Hawaii, I may not be able to address your concerns, given the volume of inquiries, but will refer your request to the appropriate Senator from your home state in accordance with the longstanding traditions of Congressional courtesy.

After many years of casework resolution, I have found that there are several federal agencies that are the most frequently contacted by my office. Perhaps you will find the information you are seeking by visiting one of the following links
