Internships

Thank you for your interest in obtaining an internship in my Washington, D.C. office or in one of my state offices in South Carolina. Internships are an invaluable experience for students seeking to learn more about the legislative process and the inner-workings of a Senate office.

Washington, D.C. Office Intern Experience:
Sen. DeMint's Washington, D.C. office offers spring, summer, and fall internships to qualified candidates who have completed at least one year of undergraduate study. The fall and spring internships last for an entire semester while our summer internships (June, July, and August) each last one month. Our interns have the opportunity to observe the legislative process in-person while assisting staff with their daily responsibilities.

A typical day in the lives of our interns consists of answering phones and explaining the senator's position on current legislation, reading and sorting through constituent mail, undergoing the Congressional Research Service training and Congressional Historical Interpretative Program training, leading U.S. Capitol tours, interacting with constituents in the front office, assisting staff with various projects, and attending committee hearings and other educational events.

For students who are interested in public service and the legislative process, an internship provides you with a unique opportunity to observe the inside workings of our democracy and to develop future professional skills.
