Things to Do:
Smithsonian Museums: This website contains information on all of the museums that are part of the Smithsonian, including the Air and Space Museum, American History Museum, and the National Zoo. All of these museums are free of charge and do not require reservations.
Monuments: This website contains information on most of the popular memorials in Washington DC, including the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and others. All of these memorials are free. A significant amount of walking may be required to visit these memorials.
Arlington National Cemetery: Arlington National Cemetery is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Public transportation is available to get to the cemetery as well as parking lots for a fee. Arlington National Cemetery is free for all visitors and does not require reservations.
Supreme Court: Public tours of the Supreme Court are offered Monday- Friday, from 9:30AM-3:30PM, every hour on the half hour. Guests will need to enter through the main doors of the building. It is highly encouraged to arrive at least 10 minutes early in order to make it through the security clearance on time. This tour will last approximately 45 minutes.
Bureau of Printing and Engraving: Free tickets are required for all tours from the first Monday in March through the last Friday in August, on a first-come, first-serve basis. The ticket booth is located on Raoul Wallenberg Place (formerly 15th Street). We offer same day tickets only. The Ticket Booth opens at 8:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and closes when all tickets have been distributed. Lines form early (some days as early as 5:30 a.m.) and tickets go quickly, most days.
Library of Congress: Public Tours are offered Monday through Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. (although there is no 3:30 p.m. tour on Saturdays). These free tours are open to individuals and small groups with no more than 10 participants. No reservations or tickets are required.
National Archives: Guided tours are available at 9:45a.m. Monday through Friday, and timed visits are available daily beginning at 10:00am until 90 minutes before closing. These tours are free but there is a convenience fee of $1.50 per person for online reservations. Reservations are recommended by the National Archives in order to avoid lines especially during the height of tourist season (mid-March through Labor Day).
Mount Vernon: Tickets are required to visit Mount Vernon and can be purchased online. General admission adult tickets are $15.00, children’s tickets are $7.00, and senior’s (ages 62-over) are $14.00. Mount Vernon is accessible via metro and bus, or by driving.
National Cathedral: The suggested contribution for visiting the National Cathedral is $10 per person. Several different types of tours are available starting each half hour. The National Cathedral is accessible by metro and parking is available for a fee.
