Senate Democrats, Protecting Women’s Access to Health Care

Last week marked a victory for women across the country. By a vote of 51-48, the Senate rejected the extreme Blunt amendment — a Republican proposal that would have severely restricted women’s access to health care.

The legislation would have let bosses anywhere deny women access to preventive care for female employees on the basis of religious or moral objections. Women across the country could have lost coverage to critical health services, such as contraception, mammograms, pre-cancerous screenings, and prenatal care.

Republicans have signaled they want to continue debating access to health care. Senate Democrats will not stop fighting to protect the health and well-being of women and men across the country.
