Internships

In Washington, internships run throughout the fall, spring, or summer semesters for college students only. Although all internships in all offices are unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules but generally run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when the Senate is in session and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when not in session.  Responsibilities may include legislative research for the Member and legislative staff, attending hearings and briefings, answering constituent letters, running errands, and providing general support. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

There are also internship opportunities in my state offices where interns may be asked to do a variety of tasks, including day-to-day office work such as answering phone calls and writing letters. In addition, interns may be assigned to assist with constituent casework or work on various local projects of importance.

U.S. Service Academy Nominations

Thank you for your interest in the U.S. Service Academies. As a United States Senator, each year I have the privilege of nominating a limited number of people to four of the five service academies. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. Best wishes to you as you pursue your goal of attending a U.S. Service Academy and serving our country.
