Social Security

As a physician, I understand that millions of Americans depend on Social Security and Medicare, and we must keep our promises to them. We must also recognize that wasteful spending by decades of career politicians in Washington has drained the Social Security and Medicare trust funds, and something must be done to make these programs sustainable for the future.

Part of what makes the current structure of Social Security unsustainable is that the program was designed for a past generation. Americans today are living longer, there are fewer workers paying into the program per retiree, and factors as these are contributing to the skyrocketing debt of our nation. Our country can no longer ignore the dangerous condition of Social Security.

That is why I, along with Sens. Mike Lee (Utah) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.), introduced a plan to save Social Security. This plan fully fixes the shortfall in the Social Security program, ensuring that the promises we make today can and will be kept. It gradually implements changes everyone knows need to be made, and fully fixes Social Security for the next 75 years or more.

Below is our proposal to fully fix Social Security.
