Keeping Our Promises to Seniors and Veterans

Achieving a brighter future for our nation depends on us keeping our promises to our seniors and veterans.

West Virginia’s seniors and veterans helped build and defend this nation and we have an obligation to them that we must never break.

To our seniors, Social Security and Medicare are not just government programs, they are promises made by a thankful nation to ensure a quality of life well-earned from years of hard work and sacrifice.

As Senator Manchin travels through the state, he hears from countless seniors at breakfasts, in nursing homes, in courthouses, and at town halls about their Social Security or Medicare being at risk.

Senator Manchin believes that keeping our promises to our seniors by protecting Medicare and Social Security must be our priority as we discuss responsible ways to start living within our means again. Our nation faces a serious debt crisis, and Senator Manchin will support budget fixes that are defined by our priorities based on our values as West Virginians and Americans.

The sacrifices and patriotism of our veterans knows no bounds. They have answered the call of our state and this nation again and again. They have served with unparalleled honor and distinction. As Governor, Senator Manchin was so proud to have been Commander-in-Chief of the West Virginia National Guard – the greatest guard in our nation.

West Virginia is one of the most patriotic states in the country, and we are proud of the number of veterans and active duty members that have served our military and served honorably and proudly.

Senator Manchin is strongly committed to working with his colleagues on legislation to ensure our veterans and their families have the best care and the benefits they deserve.

In order to ensure that veterans are receiving this care and that their concerns are heard, Senator Manchin regularly holds veterans outreach meetings across West Virginia to connect veterans with representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the West Virginia Division of Veterans Affairs who can help address their pressing needs.
