I grew up in small, rural McCook in Southwest Nebraska. I’ve taken my common sense upbringing and put it to work in the U.S. Senate. Whether fighting for agriculture, promoting Nebraska products, lowering taxes, strengthening our national defense, or protecting rural Nebraska, as Nebraska's Senator I am always putting Nebraska’s interests first.

Everything you’d want to know about me is included here - and probably more information than you need.

Why I’m Proud to be a Nebraskan

No matter where I travel in the world, I can't wait to return to my home in Nebraska. People say home is where the heart is, lucky for me the Heartland is my home.

Those of us who are fortunate enough to have grown up here, or who have lived here for awhile, know that Nebraska is truly something special.

This land is so special because of what it was built on. We are a state that was, and still is, based upon agriculture, hard work and shared values. These go hand in hand.

The greatest time of year is when you can look across the countryside and see field after field of green crops. While the sight itself is spectacular, the real beauty is what has been put into these fields.

These fields represent years of dedication by men and women who are genuinely honest and caring. Nebraskans value their family, community and country. Nebraskans would, in a split second, take the time to help out a neighbor. Nebraskans prefer to contribute more than complain.

From McCook to South Sioux City, Falls City to Chadron, the people of Nebraska represent the highest of American ideals.  Nebraskans are honest and hard working; they know their neighbor's name, they help each other during harvest, they watch over friends' family, they work to make their communities better, and they pray together, attend school sports events together and never miss a Husker game.

No matter where you go in the state you'll find good, honest Nebraskans welcoming you in their city, town or community.

No matter what part of this great state you are in, the feeling of community is overwhelming. From Scottsbluff to Omaha, Nebraska's small town ideals have remained the same. It is remarkable to see how the entire state comes together.

On fall Saturdays over 80,000 Husker fans flock to Memorial Stadium and thousands more tune in to television and radio broadcasts from one end of the state to the other.  Through just a glimpse of this sea of red, the loyalty and commitment of Nebraskans shines.

The reason why I'm proud to be a Nebraskan is simple. Nebraska is a beautiful land, full of promise, hope, wonderful people and all that is good about America.
