Chairman Hastings Statement on October Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 2, 2012 - House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings (WA-04) released the following statement after the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released the October unemployment numbers:

“President Obama’s leadership during the last four years has created a struggling economy with 23 million unemployed or underemployed Americans. President Obama has continually relied on big government spending, not small business innovation, to turn the economy around and there is no question that it hasn’t worked. More Americans are worse off today than they were four years ago. While today’s news of a few jobs added to the economy is good for those lucky enough to find work, the overall unemployment rate increased, leaving the vast majority of unemployed still struggling to find a job.

“The House Natural Resource Committee has passed numerous bills to help lower the unemployment rate and increase America’s energy security. Unfortunately, over the last two years, the Democrat-controlled Senate and President Obama have consistently opposed House Republicans bipartisan legislation to create millions of jobs and grow our economy by producing more American made energy. The answer to creating more jobs cannot continue to be President Obama’s red tape and regulatory assault on American job creators—America’s private sector needs regulatory relief to start hiring again and turn our economy around.”
