Senator Johanns Invites Your Help With The Veterans History Project

There are more than 146,000 veterans living in Nebraska, approximately 40,000 of which are World War II veterans. Nebraska has a proud tradition of honoring our veterans, and I’d like to invite you to become part of an effort to ensure their stories will always be a part of our country’s history. It’s called the Veterans History Project, and I'm teaming up with the Library of Congress to collect and preserve our veterans’ stories from all wars and conflicts.

Our goal is to ensure this important part of our history, seen through the eyes of our veterans, is available to future generations for research and storytelling.  To be successful, we’re counting on volunteers to arrange, record and submit interviews. My office will assist you with training and ensure all interviews are submitted to the Library of Congress.

Or, if you are a wartime veteran wishing to preserve your story, my office will link you with a trained interviewer. I hope you will become part of this historic project with me. The link below provides detailed instructions for getting started in the Veterans History Project so you can help capture the personal stories of courage and bravery from our wartime veterans.

Senator Johanns Interviews Lt. Col (ret) Paul Adams

As part of the Veterans History Project, I was honored to interview  Paul Adams of Lincoln, a decorated war hero in his nineties who flew missions with the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. Interviewing Mr. Adams was a great way to learn more about his experiences overseas. His remarkable story is now preserved in history for generations to come at the Library of Congress.
