WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) today made the following statement on Speaker Mike Flood’s (R-Neb.) announcement that he will no longer be a candidate for governor due to his wife’s recent diagnosis of breast cancer:
“Stephanie and I extend our sincerest thoughts and prayers to our good friends Mike and Mandi during this difficult time,” Johanns said. “Mike’s decision to set aside his campaign to focus on the far more important duties as a husband and father is yet another example of his exemplary character. I’ve made no secret of my admiration for his leadership as Speaker of the Legislature, and I look forward to seeing him back in public office again as soon as Mandi has made a full recovery and the time is right.”
