Senator Boxer: Protecting Veterans from Misleading Marketing

Friday, December 7, 2012

Dear Friend:

This week, we achieved a major victory when the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that it had successfully trademarked the phrase “GI bill” to prevent the term from being used in misleading recruiting efforts.

For almost a year, I have been working to stop the deceptive ads and marketing campaigns by some for-profit colleges and universities that target veterans seeking to use their GI Bill education benefits. And I was proud to have led a group of 14 Senators in urging VA Secretary Eric Shinseki to take this action to protect the men and women who have served our nation.
