WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl made the following statement today in response to the Obama Administration rejecting the permit to build the Keystone XL Pipeline:
“I am deeply disappointed by the Obama Administration’s political decision today to reject the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Almost four years ago, the TransCanada oil company applied for the U.S. government’s permission to construct the Keystone XL project, a pipeline that would transport 830,000 barrels of oil per day from the Canadian province of Alberta to refineries in the southern United States.
“According to the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, the pipeline would also provide a boost to our economy of up to $600 million per year and create as many as 343,000 U.S. jobs. With chronic unemployment, a sluggish economy, and increasingly higher gas prices, it’s unfortunate that the Obama Administration has put its liberal constituencies ahead of the well-being of the nation’s economy.”
