The American people deserve an open, accountable government that spends taxpayer money efficiently and wisely. Far too often the Washington establishment accepts waste, fraud, and abuse as a necessary part of doing business with a big-government bureaucracy. Rather than turning a blind eye to mismanaged resources or a failure to govern effectively, Congress has a responsibility to help guarantee the people can hold every level of government accountable for its actions.

A critical part of this effort is congressional oversight. Republicans firmly believe Congress must use its authority to ensure our laws are enforced, taxpayer money is spent appropriately, and government policy does not harm the American people.

Republicans will continue to demand and lead aggressive oversight in the committee’s areas of jurisdiction, including policies administered by the U.S. Departments of Labor, Education, Agriculture, and Health and Human Services. During a time of unprecedented spending and debt, our nation’s students, workers, teachers, and families expect and deserve an open and responsible federal government.
