Education & Labor Committee Republicans

Thank you for joining us inside the committee. Within this section of the Education and the Workforce Committee website you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the committee, its history, and some of the publications and resources that will help you better understand who we are and what we do.

You can begin by reading a welcome message from Chairman John Kline in which he shares his vision for an education system that prepares our children for the future and an economy that fosters entrepreneurialism and American enterprise. While you’re there, you can get to know the Chairman by reading his brief biography, which details such experiences as his 25-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps, during which he served as personal military aide to Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan and carried the nuclear “football.”

Inside the committee also provides a list of publications and resources from which you can review the Rules of the Committee and the U.S. House of Representatives or examine the committee’s oversight plan and budget views. You can also find a compilation of federal education and labor laws, and links to legislative reports from the current Congress. This page also contains links to websites outside of the Education and the Workforce Committee that can assist in your legislative research and provide access to other key legislative and executive branch online offices, especially those dealing with education and workforce issues.

From inside the committee you can access detailed information about the members and jurisdiction of the Full Committee on Education and the Workforce and its subcommittees. You can also explore the committee’s history, from its establishment in 1867 through its work today. (While you’re visiting, don’t forget to meet the members on a page that offers video introductions of each of the committee’s Republican members.) Finally, you can find an electronic archive of prior Education and the Workforce Committee websites.

Thanks again for joining us inside the committee.
