WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Frank R. Lautenberg and Robert Menendez applauded today’s announcement of a $10,394,267 National Emergency Grant (NEG) from the U.S. Department of Labor to the State of New Jersey to hire temporary workers to help with clean-up and recovery efforts resulting from Super Storm Sandy.

This funding follows a $5,197,133 NEG grant released to New Jersey in November for the same purpose. The total $15,591,400 allocation is expected to employ about 1,000 workers throughout the state.

"When Superstorm Sandy struck New Jersey, it damaged our homes and businesses and displaced thousands of New Jersey workers,"  said Senator Lautenberg.  "This federal funding will help New Jerseyans get to work cleaning up our communities so that they can be rebuilt stronger than ever."

“I greatly appreciate the federal government’s continued responsiveness to New Jersey’s immediate needs in recovering from Super Storm Sandy,” said Senator Menendez. “As we look toward our long-term recovery, I am committed to making sure our state gets all the federal assistance possible to rebuild a stronger New Jersey that is better-prepared to sustain and recover from severe weather events.”
