McMorris Rodgers Statement on Latest Unemployment Report

December 7, 2012

WASHINGTON – House Republican Conference Chairman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Washington) issued the following statement today regarding the latest unemployment report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“America’s high unemployment crisis continues because of the failed economic policies of the president. The fact remains that too many Americans are unemployed. Sadly, middle class families across the country continue to struggle because of President Obama’s anti-growth policies. There is still great uncertainty about our future. The president wants to raise taxes while Republicans want comprehensive tax reform and a reduction in our massive debt. I hope the president will quickly come to the table, negotiate in good faith, and help us find common ground that brings certainty to our economy and middle class families.

“Our first thoughts today should be with the millions of Americans who are still unemployed and the families who are suffering through the longest economic downturn since the Great Depression. We don't want to go over the fiscal cliff. During this holiday season, let's work together to give families the gift of economic security, putting our nation ahead of partisan bickering.

“Let’s do the work we were elected to do to turn our economy around and put Americans back to work.”
