WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) was recently honored by First Focus Campaign for Children, a national, bipartisan advocacy organization, as a "Defender of Children" for his support of policies to improve the health, educational outcomes, and well-being of children.

Bass said:

"As a father myself, securing a bright and prosperous future for younger generations is one of my top priorities as the representative of the people of New Hampshire's Second District, and that's why I have been proud to champion a number of issues to help children succeed. I am honored to be recognized by First Focus Campaign for Children and look forward to continuing to work with them on the pressing issues facing families in New Hampshire and across the country."

Bass has supported a number of measures to help children and families, including ensuring the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is sufficiently funded to meet demands for home heating assistance for thousands of New Hampshire families this winter; urging House and Senate Leadership to come together and work on a bipartisan compromise on the Violence Against Women Act, which helps to prevent and respond to domestic and child abuse; and sponsoring legislation, which was signed into law earlier this summer as part of a larger legislative package, to make it easier for medical device manufacturers to create and produce devices for individuals with rare diseases. Bass has also been a strong supporter of increasing funding for special education grants to states under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
