WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt for his refusal to turn over subpoenaed documents relating to the Fast and Furious operation.

Bass said:

"Contempt of Congress is a very serious charge that cannot be taken lightly, but I believe it is vital that we learn the truth behind what went wrong with the Fast and Furious operation that led to the death of an American border agent in order to prevent this type of tragedy from happening again.

"The Administration had plenty of opportunities to provide the requested documents to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, but they repeatedly refused, despite initially promising to do so. It's unfortunate that it had to come this, but the American people deserve to know what happened and that's why I supported a vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress."
