WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) supported passage of legislation in the House of Representatives this evening that will reform procedures and reporting at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and ultimately improve accountability and transparency at the agency. The Federal Communications Commission Process Reform Act (H.R. 3309) passed by a bipartisan vote of 247 to 174 and now awaits approval by the Senate.

Bass, a member of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology and a cosponsor of the bill, said:

"The FCC has oversight over one of the key sectors of our economy – telecommunications and technology – and these critical markets need certainty in the agency's regulations and procedures. This legislation will ensure the transparency and accountability of unelected bureaucrats by establishing clear time frames for action and requiring the FCC to perform a cost-benefit analysis before implementing new regulations.

"With thousands of petition, application, consumer complaint backlogs still pending at the Commission, these reforms are long overdue and I'm glad to support legislation that will give our job creators the regulatory certainty they need to grow."
