WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) returned from a Congressional Delegation trip to Afghanistan and Oman last week, where he met with several high-ranking U.S. military officials, observed commanders meeting with troops on the front line, and dined with several New Hampshire servicemen and women serving overseas.

Bass said:

"I was honored to take part in a Congressional Delegation trip to Afghanistan to observe firsthand the progress American forces are making in the country and thank U.S. servicemembers for their sacrifices.

"In speaking with and observing U.S. troops, it is clear that they understand our mission and believe in it. They are well-equipped and well-trained. At Camp Leatherneck and Camp Eggers, I had an opportunity to meet several servicemembers from New Hampshire and bring them a little taste of home – pure New Hampshire maple syrup. I am amazed at their resolve and commitment to serving our nation at great personal sacrifice."

During the trip, the Delegation met with several high-ranking military and diplomatic officials, including U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker, Commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and U.S. Forces in Afghanistan General John Allen, and Major General John Toolen, Commander of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force. The Delegation visited Kabul and Kandahar and reviewed training of the Afghan Security Forces.
