WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) again urged the House and Senate Leadership to come to an agreement on a long-term reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to give the agency more stability in long-term safety and infrastructure planning.

Today, the House of Representatives passed another short-term extension of the FAA, which will authorize the agency through January 31, 2012. The Senate must now pass this short-term extension this week before the current reauthorization expires on Saturday.

Bass said:

"While today's passage of a four-month reauthorization will give House and Senate negotiators more time to come to a resolution on a longer-term bill, we cannot keep stringing the FAA along with continuous short-term extensions.

"A long-term reauthorization will give the FAA more stability and certainty in safety and infrastructure planning and will ensure we do not have another partial shutdown of the agency like we did in early August. I sincerely hope my colleagues on the conference committee can work out their differences so we can pass a long-term bill once and for all. It's important for our economy and the safety of our skies."
