WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) issued the following statement this afternoon after Senator Reid's debt limit proposal failed to pass the House of Representatives.

Bass said:

"While there is some agreement on the broad elements of a deal, Senator Reid has proposed a plan that will not deliver on its promises to the American people. We need real solutions to reform Washington's broken ways, and by failing to ensure that bipartisan long-term deficit reduction measures are duly considered before a second increase in the debt ceiling, Senator Reid's proposal falls short.

"It is vital that we put people before politics and work to find a bipartisan compromise that will address our spending problems and allow our economy to strengthen and grow. I am confident that Congress can overcome any remaining differences by working together in good faith and a reasonable manner. Our country will not default."
