Says Americans deserve greater choices in health care decisions

WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) voted today to put an end to the job-crushing taxes and mandates under the failed health care law and give Americans greater choices in their health care decisions.

By a vote of 245 to 189, the House of Representatives voted to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which was signed into law last March.

Bass, a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee that will be working on formulating new market- and patient-based health care policies, said:

"This health care law has done little to improve health care choices for the American people. Instead, it has imposed burdensome mandates on individuals and small businesses, increased costs, and expanded bureaucratic control over our health care system.

"We need patient-centered health care reform that is based on improving care, increasing access, and lowering costs for everyone, all while ensuring that pre-existing conditions are covered. That's why I support market-based measures such as allowing individuals to deduct premiums from their taxes, enacting meaningful tort reform, and letting individuals purchase insurance across state lines.

"The American people don't want the federal government dictating their health care choices. This flawed law should never have been passed in the first place, and I'm extremely glad that the House of Representatives voted to repeal it today.
