WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed a Continuing Resolution (H.R. 1) early this morning to fund the federal government through the end of this fiscal year after the current continuing resolution expires on March 4th.

Bass said:

"This was a busy week and we had to make a lot of tough choices about how to fund our nation's priorities. But we did so under an open, democratic process, giving Members a chance to offer hundreds of amendments and debate for nearly 90 hours on behalf of their constituents.

"There's no question that federal spending has spiraled out of control, and our national debt and deficits pose a threat to our economic growth and way of life. While not perfect, this Continuing Resolution was a step toward greater fiscal responsibility over the taxpayers' hard-earned dollars. As Congress begins the budget process for next year, I will continue to review proposals carefully to ensure we meet New Hampshire's and our nation's needs at a price we can afford. At the end of the day, we have to get our fiscal house in order and learn to live within our means."
