Votes in Energy & Commerce Committee to void FCC's recent net neutrality ruling

WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) praised passage of a measure in the House Energy and Commerce Committee today that would nullify the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) misguided rules giving the federal government unprecedented control over the Internet.

Bass is an original cosponsor of a resolution of disapproval, H.J.Res. 37, which would void the FCC's recent net neutrality rules that propose allowing government regulation of the Internet for the first time.

Bass said:

"In an overreaching power grab last year, the Federal Communications Commission exceeded its authority and disregarded the historically hands-off regulatory approach that has allowed the Internet to flourish. The FCC's rules to regulate the Internet threaten to strangle this engine of technological and economic growth by stifling innovation and creating unnecessary uncertainty.

"With today's measure, Congress has taken an important step toward reversing the FCC's Internet takeover, restoring certainty in the marketplace, and once again unleashing investment, innovation, and job creation in the free market."

H.J.Res. 37 now awaits a vote by the full House of Representatives.
