WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) issued the following statement today on the one year anniversary of President Obama signing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law.

Bass said:

"It has been one year since President Obama signed this flawed health care plan into law, and look at where things stand: nearly half of the American people disapprove of it, the uncertainty this law has caused continues to stall our economic recovery, and the cost of the health care law has increased by $500 billion, from $938 billion to over $1.4 trillion, according to a recent estimate by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

"The American people don't want the federal government dictating their health care choices. The House has already repealed the law, and we will continue to take steps to defund it and stop it in its tracks. Instead of the tax increases and government mandates this law will heap on American families and businesses, we need to enact patient- and market-based measures that increase access, lower costs, and improve care for everyone."

So far this year, the House of Representatives has passed legislation to repeal the health care law (H.R. 2); legislation to repeal the 1099 tax paperwork reporting requirements (H.R. 4); and several amendments to H.R. 1, the Fiscal Year 2011 Continuing Resolution, that prohibit funds for the law's implementation and for any federal officials to enforce provisions of the law. In addition, the House Energy and Commerce Committee, on which Bass serves, has been working to defund the mandatory "slush funds" in the health care law.
