WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) held a telephone town hall meeting this afternoon with over 5,200 seniors in the Second Congressional District about how our nation can preserve and protect Medicare for future generations.

Bass answered a number of questions chosen at random during the hour-long call, ranging from reducing Medicare fraud to seeking solutions to ensure Medicare's solvency.

Bass said:

"While telephone town hall meetings can never substitute for the real thing, they give me a chance to reach thousands of constituents while I am working in Washington and hear firsthand their questions and comments about issues such as preserving Medicare. Bass also conducted two polls during the call, the results of which are below:

Question 1: How do you think your children's and grandchildren's quality of life will be, compared to yours?

Better = 9 percent
Worse = 65 percent
The same = 26 percent

Question 2: Do you think Congress should preserve and protect Medicare at this time?

Yes = 80 percent
No = 9 percent
Not sure = 11 percent

In addition to hosting telephone town hall meetings from Washington on a regular basis, Bass has already held four in-person town hall meetings in Salem, Jefferson, Hillsborough, and Colebrook, with plans to conduct many more throughout the year.
